Galicia is pleased to announce the appointment of Ernesto Partida, Mario Valencia and Denise Lester as partners of the Firm, effective January 1st 2020

Ernesto Partida

Ernesto joined Galicia in 2007, as an associate in the Energy and Infrastructure practice area. His work focuses on the development and financing of infrastructure projects, mainly in the energy sector, including petrochemical, natural gas, electricity, and renewable energies, as well as mergers and acquisitions of companies related to those activities. 

He has participated in public biddings, auction processes, and projects with schemes designed and developed by private companies. Ernesto represents key players in the energy and infrastructure sectors, including investors, developers and financial institutions. 

Ernesto worked from 2014-2015 in Mayer Brown LLP in Washington D.C., as foreign associate. Ernesto studied at Universidad Anahuac and holds a master’s degree in American Law from Boston University.

Mario Valencia

Mario joined in 2012 as a senior associate in the International Trade and WTOpractice area. His work is focused on advising national and international clients in trade related topics, tax and customs planning, negotiation and application of free trade agreements, and the operation of export and production promoting programs, as well as the interpretation and application of international regulations, provided by the WTO.

The sectors in which he has specialized are: energy, mining, automotive industry, electronic, aerospace, foods and beverages, alcoholic beverages, footwear, clothing and consumables goods, in which he has been recognized as a leading lawyer with sophisticated and innovative solutions in the market. His practice also covers investor-state arbitration, mediation and litigation proceedings related to trade issues, as well as the representation of mexican and foreign clients in trade remedies investigations, mainly antidumping and subsidies, and the analysis and review of the level of compliance with customs and tax obligations.

Mario graduated from InstitutoTecnológicoAutónomo de México (ITAM) and has a master’s degree in International Business and Economic Law from Georgetown University, in Washington, D.C. (2016), where he graduated with distinctions and obtained a Certificate in WorldTrade Organization Studies.

He has been recognized by several international publications, such as Chambers & Partners andThe Legal 500, as next generation lawyer in the international trade and customs practice area, since 2015.

Denise Lester

Denise joined Galicia in 2016 as a senior associate, leader of the tax litigaion practice. She has over eighteen years of experience in practicing tax litigation. Her practice mainly consists in the design of legal strategies to protect the tax interests of taxpayers against resolutions issued by tax authorities, among others, those by which a tax liability is imposed, the digital seals are cancelled, and the denial of tax refunds is notified.

Denise has participated in various publications specializing in tax matters, has collaborated with various colleagues in research work and has taught courses related to the regulation of value added tax and amendments to the FederalTax Code.

Denise worked from 2004 to 2016 as a partner in tax litigation practice in Ortiz, Sainz y Erreguerena, S.C. She majors in Law at Universidad Anáhuac del Norte, where she graduated in 2004 with honors.

Consistent with the business plan of the Firm, the incorporation of Ernesto, Mario, and Denise as Partners contributes to the organic growth of the Firm and to continue providing first level legal services to our domestic and international clients.
