Since the beginning of his career, Édgar has focused his practice on competition and antitrust matters. He was a Counsel for Galicia for one year and, since 2026, has been a Partner in the Competition/Antitrust, and Compliance areas.
Édgar enjoys combining legal and economic analysis to make transactions happen. He is an expert in competition law and is widely recognized for his detailed understanding of the business models of the companies he advises and the impact of regulation on them.
He has focused his practice on merger control and has been involved in some of the most complex cases reviewed by the Mexican Competition Commission in recent years.
Édgar has a particular interest in digital markets and has advised on landmark transactions and proceedings in this area. Clients also commend his strong data analysis skills and his remarkable experience in energy-sector proceedings before the competition authorities.
He holds an M.Sc. in Development Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), an LL.M. in Economic Analysis of Law from the University of Salamanca and a postgraduate degree in Statistical Methods from Centro de Investigación en Matemáticas (CIMAT). Previously, he graduated with distinction from the Law School of the Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes in 2011.
Édgar worked as a foreign associate in the Brussels office of Freshfields in 2023.
Teaching is what he enjoys the most. He has taught competition and regulation at ITAM and Tecnológico de Monterrey and has had the opportunity to advise on innovative dissertations on the subject. He has published articles in prestigious antitrust journals such as the Oxford Journal of European Competition Law & Practice, Concurrences, Competition Policy International and The Antitrust Source.
