Ivonne is an associate in the Tax practice.
She has advised clients in complex domestic and foreign transactions from different sectors and industries, seeking to be innovative, goal-oriented and aligned with a clients’ business models and priorities. Ivonne is passionate about practicing, enhancing, and encouraging self-awareness, high-quality communication, decisiveness, flexibility, critical thinking and the ability to compromise.
Ivonne has provided tax advisory services to foreign and Mexican pension, investment, private equity, and sovereign funds as well as financial institutions, not-for-profit organizations, multinational enterprises, foreign clients with permanent establishments in Mexico, Mexican REITs and Infrastructure MLPs, insurance companies, corporations and individuals. She specifically advises them on their day-to-day operations, mergers and acquisitions on share and asset deals, corporate reorganizations, financings, capital markets transactions, real estate, energy projects, foods and beverages tax obligations, and digital business models.
Moreover, Ivonne has coordinated teams in tax audits, refund procedures, including a VAT refund for $275M USD requested in 2020 and authorized in 2021, and private letter ruling processes before the Mexican tax authorities. Likewise, she has led tax policy-related activities, such as advising, promoting and drafting administrative tax rules proposals.
Before joining Galicia, Ivonne was a senior associate for more than seven years at another important Mexican law firm. She previously worked as a lawyer at AXA Mexico.
Ivonne has played a key role in major projects that the International Tax Review has awarded as (i) the 2018 Tax Real Estate Deal of the Year for the GIC Singapore Sovereign Fund and CCLA investment, (ii) the 2017 Americas Consumer Products Tax Deal of the Year for Coca-Cola Femsa’s acquisition of Vonpar, and (iii) the 2016 Americas Real Estate Tax Deal of the Year for Blackstone’s acquisition of the GE Real Estate Mexico lending platform and real estate loan portfolio.
She obtained a bachelor of Laws with honors from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (2014) and was candidate for the Gabino Barreda Medal for academic excellence. She received her postgraduate degree in Tax Law from Escuela Libre de Derecho (2015) and holds an LL.M. in International Tax Law from King’s College London (2022), where she won scholarships granted by the Carlos Slim Foundation, Brockmann Foundation and Mexican Central Bank.
She is an active member of Abogadas MX and the Women of IFA Network (WIN).
