This year, we proudly celebrated our 30th Anniversary, an extraordinary milestone that reflects the strength, dedication, and vision of our team. Along with our members, we consider our clients, friends and alumni an instrumental part in shaping Galicia into the leading force it is today.
As we close an extraordinary anniversary year, we look forward to continuing to shape the legal landscape in Mexico, with an unmatched culture and a unique market offering that seamlessly blends renowned transactional and regulatory expertise with strategic capabilities in litigation.
After a peaceful electoral year, the first female president was elected, and a set of structural initiatives were approved that have altered the way previous administrations operated, with greater control by the executive branch. These reforms include the elimination of autonomous bodies and a deep judicial reform, among others.
Despite the challenges, both local and international business activity continues, particularly in sectors such as energy, hospitality, technology, and financial services. There is significant potential for creativity in developing new businesses in Mexico.
As the country moves forward with renewed energy and vision, we remain optimistic about the opportunities that lie ahead and our role in shaping a brighter future for Mexico and its global connections.
The path is clear for growth, progress, and collaboration, and we are excited to be part of it.
Since 2022, M&A work has been declining in both volume and value globally, including in the U.S. and Europe. Industry publications report a 30% reduction in activity over the last years. The same trend has affected capital markets in countries across the region.
While the decline in transactional activity has been more moderate in Brazil and Mexico, the global drop can be attributed to several key factors: high interest rates, inflation, international political instability, particularly in Ukraine and the Middle East and the ongoing U.S.-China trade war. All the above creates uncertainty and instability, impacting the ability to accurately price assets.
These challenging landscapes demand that we adapt and remain agile, as these factors continue to shape the economic and business environment. In a volatile and unstable world, with a shrinking market, we have successfully positioned ourselves as a key player through our multidisciplinary approach, collaborative culture, and strong network of Best Friends.
Our unmatched portfolio of Mexican clients stands as a testament to the trust we've built.
Despite the global challenges, our firm has successfully navigated a smaller transactional market, thanks to an increased market presence and the impact of nearshoring. Key to this achievement has been our strong leading positioning in both domestic and international markets and our multidisciplinary specialized unique service offering.
Our strategy has proven effective and should continue, with adjustments made to account for the political and economic landscapes that we face. Above all, we must learn to collaborate more closely with the government, seek creative partnership models, and strengthen our risk management capabilities.
As we adapt to an ever-evolving market landscape, we have focused on strengthening our relationships with the new administration, driving investment through creative solutions, and delivering even greater value to our clients. We remain committed to innovation and providing unparalleled solutions that make a real difference.
The future is bright, and together, we are shaping it!
