On July 6, 2023, Convention 190 on the Elimination of Violence and Harassment of the International Labor Organization (ILO) (the “Convention”) entered into force.
The Convention is the first international treaty that seeks to eradicate violence and harassment at work, that is, in the workplace, the place where the workers are paid or rest and/or take their meals, at work-related events, in the use of information technologies, in the worker’s place of accommodation and the work commute.
Likewise, it seeks that the Member States adopt the necessary and pertinent legislation and measures to establish control mechanisms for the application and monitoring of the Convention, including the imposition of sanctions, means of inspection and investigation, the establishment of policies related to the violence and harassment, grievance procedures and dispute resolution mechanisms.
Derived from the foregoing, legislative changes in our legal system are expected in order to implement the Convention.
